The Ferrari F40 Story
One of the most iconic cars of its era, The F40 was the evolution of the stunning 288 and was built to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary.
It was the last Ferrari automobile personally approved by Enzo Ferrari.
Built from 1987 to 1992, with the LM and GTE race versions continuing production until 1994 and 1996 respectively.
From the outset, the F40 was built as a race car for the road with its stunningly good looks and blistering performance.
The body was an entirely new design by Pininfarina featuring panels made of Kevlar, carbon fibre and aluminium for strength and low weight, and intense aerodynamic testing employed.
The first 50 cars produced had sliding Lexan windows, while later cars were fitted with wind down windows.
Whilst the planned production total was 400 units, a total of 1,311 cars were manufactured with 213 units destined for the United States.
A performance icon and an industry benchmark, the F40 is a triumph of engineering for Ferrari and a car that is truly brilliant to behold in every right. One might say it was and still remains a true masterpiece!
