Condition and history
The engine was owned by its previous custodian for twenty-one years and was carefully stored throughout. It is presented in excellent, as-new, time-warp condition, exactly as it left the factory. Nothing has been dismantled, refinished or replaced.
Units like this were supplied by Ferrari as spare F40 engines during the car’s production life and shortly after. Almost all were eventually fitted. An example that was never installed, and that has stayed with a single owner for two decades, is a materially different proposition to a rebuilt or removed unit.

Why a new old stock F40 engine matters
The F120A is the engine that defines the F40. A 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 developed from Ferrari’s competition programme, it was the last Ferrari road-car engine built with nothing electronic standing between the throttle and the rear wheels. Cars retaining their original engines command a clear premium, and owners restoring or recommissioning an F40 increasingly find the engine the hardest single component to source correctly.
A new old stock F40 engine answers two problems at once. For a car that has lost its original unit, it offers a factory-supplied replacement of known provenance. For a collector, it is a significant object in its own right.
